The Guardian Thursday news quiz is back!
by Martin Belam, September 11, 2025 Good news, everyone! After an unexpected hiatus due to me going slightly loopy over the summer, the Guardian Thursday news quiz is back!
As I said on Facebook, “A huge news week deserves the return of a huge news quiz. Unfortunately this is the Thursday quiz so it’s all the usual silly nonsense stories that have caught my eye.”
Or as I put it in the comments on the Guardian’s own website:
“Well, well, well – fancy meeting you all here. Thank you so much for your many kind words and messages during my absence. The unscheduled disappearance has meant some tweaks to the THURSDAY QUIZ SPREADSHEET OF SPREADSHEETS™, but rest assured more of the regular features – Karl-Heinz, Alan Shearer, Diana Dors, Pokémon et al, will gradually be reintroduced over the coming weeks. I thought I’d try and attract some new quizzers by starting with a straighter news bat for a couple of weeks before going all weird on them. Have fun in the comments, but remember to be kind to each other. It is lovely to be back writing the quiz.”
