A one-line review of every #TimsTwitterListeningParty I joined in July 2021

Nobody has asked for this. It is more for my benefit than yours. It’s a monthly series. I’ve marked LPs that I’d never heard the whole way through before with a 🆕 icon. The links (mostly) go to the album on Spotify. Fewer this month, mostly down to clashing with Euro 2020, and the Mighty Fall Facebook Group listening parties having a month off.

🆕Snapped Ankles Forest Of Your Problems Snapped Ankles are one of those bands where all the component parts appear to be very much in my wheelhouse but somehow they’ve never quite captivated me, and this album didn’t either.

🆕Desperate Journalist Maximum Sorrow! Having threatened to stay up to midnight to listen to this as soon as it dropped, what with one thing or another, the listening party ended up being my first listen. I love this band so much, they should be huge and playing arenas, and in Armageddon, Fine In The Family, Utopia and Everything You Wanted this album has huge heft in the middle. I felt it slightly tailed off on first listen though, although subsequent listens have rectified that.

🆕The GO! Team Get Up Sequences Part One I can see why people find them fun, I’ve enjoyed them on a festival stage, and the mix’n’match of styles is all very clever, but it just doesn’t quite do it for me on record.

Ummmmmm, and that was that. I didn’t join any other listening parties in July, mostly because covering the Olympics took over my life 24/7 and venues opened and I started going out to gigs again. Maybe I’ll have to start reviewing those instead.
